Committees

The majority of the Council’s business is delegated to five main committees that meet on a pre-determined cycle. All meetings of the Council and its main Committees are open to the public and are normally held in the Council Chamber. However, upon request the meeting may be adjourned and reconvened in the Corn Exchange for ease of access if necessary. Copies of the Agendas for all meetings are posted on the notice board at the Town Hall at least three days prior to the meeting. Agenda and Minutes can also be found on the website. Timetable of meetings – this will be updated in May each year. Please see the left hand menu for Committee meetings and Agendas. Minutes will be published on this page when they have been approved by council.

The prime purpose of all Committees will be to investigate matters in depth with a view to producing to Council a concise and critical analysis, with recommendation as far is applicable, except where Committees have been granted specifically or generally power to act.

All Committees will consist of such Members as the Council may appoint with powers of voting as are normally attached to such standing Committees with power to authorise expenditure within any restriction otherwise placed upon them by Standing Orders or direct council instruction, all as within the Council approved budget.

The terms of reference of such Committees shall be to consider the following matters within the overall instruction contained in paragraph (a) above together with any further matter directed to them by the Council from time to time.
