Grant Aid

Are you involved with a group or organisation working for the benefit of the community of Witney?

Do you have a particular project or event which would benefit from additional funds or equipment you would like to purchase?

Grants can help your group.

The Town Council has a small budget for local groups and organisations that are planning a project or looking for financial help.

The main criteria are that the group or project is based in Witney or is for the benefit of Witney residents.  No grants can be awarded to individuals.

Recent successful applicants include the Witney Model Club, awarded £200 towards a home cinema projection kit; Base 33, awarded £781 to fund the cost of a Emergency First Aid at Work Course as part of its summer school programme for young people; West Oxfordshire Museum Centre, awarded £500 for a fireproof filing cabinet to store photographic negatives.

Advice and assistance available for Community Groups from Oxfordshire Community and Voluntary Action (OCVA)

1.Information points

If you have a bright idea for a community project but don’t know where to start, or if you belong to a group that needs some guidance, the Oxfordshire Community and Voluntary Action (OCVA) Information Point at the CAB in Witney may be able to help.

At the Information Point you will find a variety of resources including a computer (with software to help identify funding sources) and small library of books, to help you work out what practical steps you need to take. In addition, David Bates, Development Officer from Oxfordshire Community and Voluntary Action (OCVA) visits the Information Point on a regular basis to offer funding and development advice to groups.

Information Point location and opening times:

West Oxfordshire CAB, The Old Print House, Marlborough Lane, Witney OX28 6DY

Every Tuesday, 1.30-4.30pm (by appointment).

All appointments: email funding@ocva.org.uk or call OCVA on 01865 251946 and ask to speak to David Bates in the Development Team.

2. Monthly funding newsletter. OCVA produce a monthly funding newsletter with details of new funding sources and local funding funding opportunities.

You can access this by following the link www.oxnet.org.uk/development or contacting them for a hard copy.

The August 2010 funding newsletter containing the latest information about funding opportunities for voluntary and community organisations is now available on the OCVA website along with the Funding Deadlines schedule. You can access both by using the link above.

3."Lend a Laptop" scheme. Oxfordshire Community and Voluntary Action (OCVA), working in partnership with Volunteer Link Up, are able to offer the loan of a laptop for your group to research funding sources. The Laptop contains:

  • Funderfinder software-a searchable database of over 4,000 grant making trusts.

  • Information to help your organisation produce a business like plan to present to funders.

It can be borrowed from the Volunteer Link up office in the Methodist Church on Wesley Walk in Witney and retained for a week for a refundable deposit of £100.

To book or find out more information, contact Volunteer Link up on 01993 776277.
