This Year Witney Town Council took a different approach to its Schools in Bloom competition. Normally schools are awarded a sum of money and follow the same criteria that towns and villages follow in the National In Bloom initiatives. They are then paid a visit by Town Council and Rotary judges who award prizes to the top entries. This has been successful for many years but we realised that members of the public never ever got to see the great results as they cannot just pop in to the schools and take a look.
This year we worked with our new Grounds Contractors, Continental Landscapes Limited and Witney Rotary Club to bring the entries out into the community so that everyone can enjoy them. Our contractors supplied each school with a wheelbarrow and 2 bags of compost, the Town Council provided garden Gift Vouchers for Hilltop Garden Centre and Witney Rotary Club, collected, paraded the finished entries as part of Witney Carnival Procession to the Leys.
At the Carnival members of the public were encouraged to vote for their favourites and Witney Rotary Club who award an annual cash prize also selected their winner. The commemorative, Chrissie Curry WOW FACTOR trophy winner was also chosen.
Here are the winning entries for 2017.
