The Corn Exchange

 

 

perspective4Witney Town Council are delighted to be able to offer the newly refurbished Corn Exchange for hire. The much treasured Grade II Listed building in the heart of Witney offers two rooms for hire decorated in subtle neutral colours to match the elegance and style of the building built in 1863.

 
 

The Corn Exchange is currently in a transition period while a Board of Trustees is formulated to support, develop and take over the running of the building in the future. Further information on this can be found here Corn Exchange Board of Trustees

 

 

The Corn Exchange is available for flexible all year round hire and is available for all occasions. It has disabled access via a fixed concrete ramp at the side of the building and there is free parking available in the nearby Woolgate car parks.

 
 
 
 
 

Gallery Room

 

 

The Gallery Room is located on the first floor of the building and is accessed by the original wooden staircase and a lift. It is suitable for smaller occasions or conferences and meetings and has lovely views over the Market Square.

The Gallery Room measures 11.9m x 6.23m but we regret to advise that there is currently no WiFi available and refreshments are not permitted in the room to maintain the fabric of the building. Refreshments are however, available in the downstairs lobby which can be used as a break out room.

Main Hall

 

The Main Hall is located on the Ground Floor and is accessed through double doors from the inner entrance lobby and stairwell. The room is suitable for large parties, weddings, conferences and productions. It has access to the main kitchen and can accommodate a small stage area.

The Main Hall measures 15.9m x 10.5m and is equipped with a moveable stage and seating for 160 people. We regret to advise that there is currently no WiFi available in the Main Hall.

*Please note that although the Corn Exchange is licensed for entertainment there is no fixed bar area. Mobile Bars can be accommodated within the lobby of the Hall but must be arranged privately by any prospective hirer who will need to apply for a Temporary Event Notice in order to sell alcohol.

 
 
 

Frequently Asked Questions

 
 
 

What designates which category my event falls into?

 

We have three groups in our pricing structure:

 

Group 1: If you are a charity, a registered charity number will be requested at the time of your booking. This group is also suitable for local organisations where proof of an OX28 postcode will also be requested at the time of booking.

Group 2: Non-charitable events. This is usually for private events, such as parties, weddings and other gatherings.

Group 3: Commercial and Sales. If you are a business holding an event, are charging a price for tickets or gain an income from the event to be held it will fall in this category.

 
 

I only want to book the Hall for an hour – what price do I pay?

 

There can only be hourly charges during the working day for events, otherwise, the charge will be for a full hour session even if you are not there for the full time.

 
 

Why do I have to pay Public Liability Insurance?

 

As the Hall is a publicly owned space and you are holding an event there, the Council has to be sure that in the event of any accident or incident that the hirer has insurance. If you are an organisation that already has this then a copy will need to be provided to the Bookings Office at the time of booking and there is no extra charge. For the majority of private events, this will not be the case and it needs to be covered through the Council insurance which will incur a cost totalling 10.5 % of the hire charge.

 
 

Can I hire a Bar at the Public Halls?

 

There is no static bar within our Halls. Hirers will need to hire a mobile bar at their own cost for an event. Details are available on request.

 
 

Can I have a Bouncy Castle or any other activity in the Halls?

 

This will be at the discretion of Witney Town Council. In the case of Bouncy Castles, dimensions and a risk assessment would be needed.

 
 

Can I have use of the kitchen and what facilities are there?

 

There is a charge of £25 for the use of the kitchen. In relation to the Corn Exchange there are no cooking facilities but there is a microwave, fridge and dishwasher. We would ask that if the kitchen is used, it is left in the same standard as it is found.

 
 

Do you allow outside catering?

 

Yes. The hirer of company will need to contact the Bookings Office in order to advise of this and arrange access to the building beforehand if it is possible.

 
 

When should I pay my deposit and balance?

 

Your deposit should be paid when you submit your booking form as this confirms your booking. Full payment should be received not less than 14 days before your event.

 
 

When can I get access to the Hall?

 

Your booking time is when you can get access to the Hall – early entry will not be available without prior agreement. Likewise, at the end of your event, the Hall should be vacated by the end of your booking time – any additional time after the end of your booking will result in an additional cost being invoiced.

 
 

Will there be somebody there when I arrive and leave?

 

Yes, the Caretaker will always try and be in attendance when you arrive for your event and if cannot be for any reason will have unlocked the Hall ready for you. Likewise, they will try to be there at the end of your event to lock up – this is not the hirer’s responsibility.

 

 

How and when do I get my damage deposit back?

 
Deposits are usually returned by cheque within 2 weeks after your event providing there was no damage to the Hall.
 
 
 

Corn Exchange Questions

 

Can I book the foyer of the Corn Exchange?

 

The Foyer does not form part of a booking unless there is prior arrangement with the Bookings Office. The charge for hiring the Foyer would incur a charge that equals the price of the Gallery Room as no other bookings can take place in the Hall.

 
 

Is there a charge for erecting the stage?

 
Yes, there is a charge of £125  for erecting the stage.
 
 

Is there any tiered seating in the Corn Exchange?

 
Currently there is no tiered seating at the Corn Exchange.
 
 

Is there WiFi at the Corn Exchange?
