Looking for something to spice up your Friday night? Or perhaps a day out with the kids? Witney Town Council hosts a variety of events of our own and third-party events year-round in our community venues.

80th Anniversary of VJ Day

Friday 15th August 2025

Schedule

9am: Official Town Cry (Corn Exchange) and afterwards Flag Raising (Town Hall)

11am: Wreath Laying at the Church Green War Memorial, reinstating plaque and placing of Tribute flowers on Arthur Titherington’s memorial Bench on Church Green

10am – 4pm: Witney Museum will be displaying some of the photographs and books from the collection of Arthur Titherington (Local Japanese POW and Chair of the Japanese Labour Camp Survivors)

12 noon – 2pm: Discover the Commonwealth War Graves walk and the Commonwealth War Graves Commission app and join us for refreshments at Tower Hill Chapel. The Witney and District museum will also be holding guided walks during this time – more information on those will be publicised soon on our social media.

Sunday 17th August

10.45am: Civic Service VJ Day 80 service at St Mary’s Church, Church Green – details to follow

In the weeks leading up to VJ Day, community groups have been invited to enhance our war memorials located at The Leys, Newland, and Church Green. They are encouraged to tidy and decorate these sites as they choose. They will be rewarded with a Thank You picnic while they are working on their memorial.

Open Mic 

Regular open mic sessions held first Thursday of every month, 19:00 to 22:00. All ages and experience welcome, no need to book. PA system provided.


Witney Jazz

Witney’s best jazz club, first Friday of every month with an excellent range of different jazz styles in a relaxed and professional venue. Tickets available here.


Corn Exchange Daytime Film Club

From October 2024, join the Daytime Film Club fortnightly to catch a classic film in the Corn Exchange on our big screen.

External Third-Party Events

These are events such as fairs, festivals and circuses that hire our venues, but are not Town Council Events, although we work closely with organisers.

Witney Carnival  – Saturday 12th July 2025

Starting with a float procession around town, followed by events and entertainment on the Leys.


OPA Playday –  Thursday 7th August

The ever-popular free family fun event  No need to book – just turn up and have fun. Burwell Recreation Ground


VJ  Day – Friday 15th August 2025

Flag raising and wreath laying at the Church Green War Memorial


Witney Feast –  September 2025 (Date TBC)

A yearly funfair held on the Leys.


Circus Ginnett – October 2025
