THE LAKE AT WITNEY LAKE AND COUNTRY PARK (DUCK LAKE) HAS BEEN CONFIRMED TO CONTAIN HARMFUL BLUE-GREEN ALGAE.THIS POSES POTENTIAL SERIOUS HEALTH RISKS TO BOTH HUMANS AND DOGS. WHILE THE LAKE IS SAFE TO WALK AROUND, PLEASE TAKE APPROPRIATE PRECAUTIONS YOURSELF AND DO NOT ALLOW DOGS TO SWIM IN OR DRINK THE WATER. THE TOWN COUNCIL IS LIAISING WITH THE ENVIRONMENT AGENCY (EA) ON THE BEST ACTION TO TAKE

Please note 

Due to the nature of the lake and its unpredictable depths and instability of the banks, Swimming/paddling is not permitted anywhere in the lake.

  • Use the quarter mile markers to measure your walk or run around the lake.
  • Use the information points and rubbing boards to discover more about the nature surrounding you.
  • Take a break picnic by the lakeside. We have accessible picnic benches so that everyone can join in.
  • There are dozens of species of birds around including Snipe after which one of our meadows is named. How many can you spot?
  • If you love what you find and want to help look after it, why not offer to volunteer?
