🌊 Grand Reopening of the Refurbished Splash Park at The Leys 🌊
Thursday 22nd May 2025 | Opening Ceremony at 2PM
Witney Town Council is excited to invite residents and visitors to the grand reopening of the newly refurbished Splash Park at The Leys on Thursday, 22nd May 2025! The event will begin at 2PM with an official opening ceremony attended by Town Councillors and interested parties, and the Splash Park will remain open for public use until 6PM on the day.
After a much-anticipated refurbishment, this beloved community space is ready to welcome families back for a summer of free, outdoor fun!
What’s New?
This refurbishment is the result of a wide-reaching consultation that placed children and young people at the heart of the design process. From colour schemes to water features, the new Splash Park was shaped by the ideas and preferences of our community.
During the consultation, which took place at the Witney Carnival, our West Witney Play Day, and online, even very young children were able to share their choices using sticker boards. Parents and carers also had the opportunity to share feedback, making this a truly community-driven project.
The newly improved Splash Park features:
💧 14 interactive water jets, running in playful, timed sequences. Around 6 jets operate at a time, creating a fun, ever-changing play experience that encourages movement and discovery – while also conserving water.🌈 A vibrant, colourful design, chosen by the community.
♿ Inclusive features including wheelchair-friendly fountains, ground-level sprays, and a floor-mounted button to start the water – ensuring accessibility for all.
👣 A new tactile safety surface, offering extra grip for little feet.
🌳 An expanded play area around the splash pad to accommodate more families and prevent mud and bark from blocking the system.
Environmentally Friendly Fun
As part of Witney Town Council’s commitment to sustainability and resource conservation, the refurbished Splash Park includes a number of environmentally responsible upgrades:
- The sequential water jet system uses only around 6 jets at a time from a total of 14. This not only keeps the experience dynamic and interactive but also significantly reduces water usage.
- Grey water from the Splash Park is now reused for plant watering and irrigation in other Town Council recreational areas – cutting down on waste and supporting greener public spaces.
