Witney Town Council increases support for West Oxfordshire Community Transport (WOCT)

Witney Town Council has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting vital local transport services by increasing its annual grant to the West Oxfordshire Community Transport (WOCT). The Council will shortly provide WOCT with a further £2,500, bringing its total annual contribution to £26,000.

This additional funding comes at a crucial time as operating costs continue to rise. The Council’s support ensures the continuation of the Witney Town Bus Services—routes that many residents, particularly older and more vulnerable members of the community, rely upon for their daily mobility and independence.

While Oxfordshire County Council (OCC) has provided some funding earlier in the year, it currently has no additional budget available for community bus services due to commitments to “My Bus” and transport support for other areas. Witney Town Council has therefore stepped in to bridge the gap and safeguard these essential local services.

Councillor Ruth Smith, Leader of Witney Town Council said:

“Witney’s community bus network is a lifeline for so many people. We’re proud to continue our partnership with WOCT and to provide this additional funding to help keep these routes running. Supporting accessible, sustainable local transport is a priority for the Town Council, and we’re determined to ensure no resident is left isolated.”

WOCT remains a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to serving the community rather than generating profit. Every pound of funding helps maintain reliable, accessible, and environmentally conscious transport options for Witney residents.

West Oxfordshire Community Transport CEO, Andrew Lyon, expressed gratitude for Witney Town Council’s long standing support.
