👩‍🌾 Schools in Bloom 2025 – The Wheelbarrow Challenge

Celebrating the winners of this year’s Schools In Bloom Wheelbarrow Competition.

This year’s theme was “Fairy Gardens,” and entries came from Witney Primary Schools, plus a special guest barrow from The Ice Centre. Schools were asked to design a magical garden suitable for donation to a local care home after the competition.

Despite the summer heat at Witney Carnival, almost 400 visitors voted for their favourite creations – and the results were as follows:

🏅 Mayor’s Choice: Our Lady of Lourdes Primary School

Selected by Mayor Councillor Andy Bailey for their fern-filled, beautifully natural garden featuring tiny wooden figures.

💖 People’s Choice Award: Windrush Primary School

Their enchanting “Secret Garden” received the most votes from Carnival visitors.

🌟 Most Unusual Garden: Madley Brook Primary School

Recognised by independent judges for their imaginative “Fairy School Playground.”

Every entry impressed the judges with pollinator-friendly plants, eco-friendly designs, and no plastic components – a true testament to creativity and sustainability.

The winning wheelbarrows were be delivered to local care homes, where they are to be enjoyed and cared for over the summer months. The Mayor visited the winning schools to present awards, and every participating school received a small token of appreciation.

Congratulations to all our schools for another year of exceptional entries – your imagination and enthusiasm help keep Witney blooming beautifully!
